‘We planted some trees six weeks ago that are for 2026 and beyond’: a Christmas tree farmer on why he is the most sustainable option

Real trees are by far the most sustainable option, says Rory Young, owner of Scottish Christmas Trees. His farm in Dumfries and Galloway sells 25,000 Christmas trees every year and has been run by his family for three generations. He has been growing Christmas trees since 1999. There are always the same number of trees on the farm because we plant at least one to replace every one we cut down.
